Payson vs Salem
On January 26, the Payson Lions played against rivals, the Salem Hills Skyhawks. Entering the game, both teams were 2-2 in region play. The first quarter started with both teams going back and forth. Payson pulled away with aggressive defense, led by Bryce Wiberg and Jaden Terry each finished the game with 2 steals, and ended the first quarter up 19-12. The aggression continued into the second quarter with Payson leading 33-22 at the half. Going into the fourth quarter the Lions lead extended to 13. The Lions kept the lead and went on to win 79-63.
Bryce Wiberg led the Lions with 25 points and 4 three pointers. Not far behind, Jaden Terry had 21 points and 3 three pointers. Kolten Mortensen led the way for rebounds with six. Salem’s starting shooting guard Kameron Morris notched 20 points scoring a game high 5 three pointers. This game set a new season high for points scored in a game for Payson. Payson is now 8-7 on the season while riding a 3 game win streak.
