In a tough defensive battle, the Lions came up a few points short Friday night. After a scoreless first quarter the Lions got on the board first with a 3 yard touchdown pass from Matt VanMoose to Buc Frazier. Emery was able to tie it up 7 -7 on a 3 yard run just before halftime. After halftime, the Spartans scored on a Logan Cox 21-yard run. After a quick turnover, Emery scored again when Zach Jorgensen plunged into the endzone with a 3-yard run to extend the lead to 19-7. The fourth quarter saw both teams scoring, including a 30 yard touchdown pass once again to Buc Frazier. In the end, Emery’s rushing attack, led by Logan Cox who had 20 carries for 165 yards, was too much for the home team. The Lions were led defensively by Chayce Loveless who totaled 13 tackles and recovered a fumble. Coach Campbell had this to say about the game “We had great support for the first home game. Unfortunately we lost a game that we wanted to win. We have improved over the previous week and we expect to improve each game. We did good things on offense and defense but also had mistakes on both sides of the ball. We need to not turn the ball over on offense and continue to score. On defense we need to play hard and assignment sound football, force more turnovers, and be great tacklers.”
The Lions will host the Morgan Trojans at 6:00 this upcoming Friday night with fireworks following the game.
