The Payson Lion football team started their region schedule Friday night in front of a large homecoming crowd. The Lions jumped to a quick lead, when quarterback Matt VanMoose scampered into the endzone from 11 yards out. Uintah took the lead after a touchdown and a field goal put the score 10-7. The Lions answered quickly with a Chayce Loveless 50 yard run to put the score 13-10 going into halftime. Mistakes and turnovers plagued the Lions in the second half as the Utes took advantage and in the end pulled away. The final score was 38-19. Coach Campbell had this to say about the game:
“We showed improvement again and we won the first half on offense, defense, and special teams. I was really proud of the way we played in the first half. The second half we didn’t execute our assignments and we didn’t protect the ball. Unfortunately we let the second half get away from us. Our Offensive Chick-Fil-A player of the game this week is Chayce Loveless. He had 10 carries for 125 yards and 1 touchdown. Defensively we recognize Buck Fraizer as a player of the game. He had 5 tackles and provided great coverage all game. Also, Weston Banks returned to play for his first game back from injury and was also the leading tackler with 6 tackles.”
The Lions will be on the road this week at Wasatch.
